Dr. Miguel Baya was born in Zaragoza in 1974. He graduated in Chemistry (June 1997) and completed his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Miguel A. Esteruelas (December 2002) at the University of Zaragoza (UZ), obtaining the extraordinary prize of degree and the extraordinary PhD award. He developed his postdoctoral stage at the LSEO (Université de Bourgogne, Dijon, France; 6 months), Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination (CNRS, Toulouse, France; 28 months) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain; 8 months), working in the research groups led by Prof. Rinaldo Poli and Prof. Agustí Lledós. During this time, he made two short stays at the Nesmeyanov Institute (INEOS, Moscow, Russia; 1 month each), collaborating with Prof. Elena S. Shubina. In September 2006 he rejoined the University of Zaragoza, being hired through the Ramón y Cajal Program, and in June 2011 he was promoted to Profesor Contratado Doctor. In July 2020 he was promoted to Profesor Titular and, in 2025, to Catedrático de Universidad, at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry. Dr Baya is currently attached to the Institute of Chemical Synthesis and Homogeneous Catalysis (ISQCH, a UZ-CSIC joint center), where he serves as Head of the Department 1 since January 2021.
